In brief

On November 1 and 2 2026, Saudi Press Agency releases announced that registration for the KAUST Mathematics Competition has opened across the Medina Region. The contest features three grade tracks and will culminate in finals at KAUST in April 2027, but the announcement date differs between reports and test center locations remain unconfirmed.

In the Medina Region, the General Administration of Education announced that registration for the KAUST Mathematics Competition has opened, inviting Saudi citizens and residents to participate in a national contest organized by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported the announcement on November 1 2026 in a release titled "Education in Medina Region Announces Registration for Kaostat Mathematics Competition".

SPA also issued a second release titled "Madinah Education Administration Announces Start of Registration for KAUST Mathematics Competition" dated November 2 2026, thereby presenting a one‑day discrepancy in the announcement date.

Both releases confirm that the competition targets students in grades six through twelve, divided into three tracks: grades six‑seven, eight‑nine, and ten‑eleven.

Registration will close on December 12, 2026, and test centers will be announced afterward; the first qualifying round is scheduled for January 23, 2027, with a written in‑person test.

The finals, set for April 2‑4, 2027, will take place at KAUST, as confirmed by the SPA documents.

Speakers stated that the contest seeks to develop higher‑order thinking skills and identify mathematically talented students, but the exact locations of test centers remain unconfirmed.

The competition aims to cultivate advanced problem‑solving abilities among pupils, and both SPA releases emphasize its national reach, including public, private, and international schools.

The contest includes three tracks: the Children track for grades six‑seven, the Young Learners track for grades eight‑nine, and the Youth track for grades ten‑eleven, each with a set of problems reflecting the syllabus progression.

Registration will be conducted through the regional education authority’s online portal, requiring proof of school enrollment and a copy of the student’s national ID or resident card.

Officials said the competition will be conducted in both Arabic and English to accommodate students from public, private, and international schools.

No official list of test centers has been issued yet; the General Administration announced that centers will be announced after the December 12 deadline.

The final rounds in April will bring together the qualifying students for a week‑long event at KAUST, featuring problem‑solving workshops and seminars, according to the SPA.
