In brief

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed at least 35 people, including women and children, as intense military operations persist. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel continues to target sites it claims are associated with Hamas, causing further humanitarian crises in an already besieged area.

More than 35 people have been killed in Israeli strikes and gunfire since the early hours of Saturday morning, hospital sources in Gaza say.

A strike on a house in central Gaza left at least 11 people dead - more than half of them women and children - according to officials at al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza City.

Health workers said nine members of the same family were among those killed in an Israeli strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp, and at least six people are reported to have been killed while seeking aid in central and southern Gaza.

This escalation follows Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's assertion at the United Nations that Israel must finish the job against Hamas.

The Israeli air force claims it has struck about 120 targets across Gaza since Friday, focusing on infrastructure used by terror groups, as the military campaign intensifies toward Gaza City, which is viewed as the last stronghold of Hamas.

With hundreds of thousands displaced due to the conflict, humanitarian conditions have deteriorated sharply, with essential services nearly collapsing. They tell us to go there, then come back here... What should we do? said local resident Salwa Subhi Bakr.

International calls for a ceasefire have intensified, especially following the recognition of Palestinian statehood at the UN. However, Israel's military actions continue unabated as it seeks to put pressure on Hamas.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about negotiating a ceasefire and the release of hostages, contingent on the implementation of a new peace plan that reportedly includes provisions for Palestinian statehood, though these proposals have been met with skepticism from Israel's leadership.
