ZZ Top Drummer Frank Beard Dies at 77

Longtime ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has died aged 77, the band confirmed in a statement on its website.

He passed away on Monday in hospice care at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family. The cause of death was not specified.

As a result, ZZ Top cancelled its scheduled tour dates this week in Utah and Colorado.

Since its formation in 1969, ZZ Top has released fifteen studio albums and four live albums, with classic hits such as Gimme All Your Lovin', Sleeping Bag and Viva Las Vegas.

Beanert & colleagues Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill, who died in 2021, have carried the group forward. After Beard’s death, the band announced it will resume its current The Big One! Tour over the weekend with two shows at Austin City Limits, a venue beloved by the late drummer.
