Trump Warns of Bombing Oman Over Iran Negotiations

According to Fox News, former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Oman—a key U.S. ally—if the country “gets in the way” of his administration’s talks with Iran. The remark came in a phone interview where Trump used profanity as he issued an ultimatum.

Oman has been in separate negotiations with Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime choke point that carries roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas. Iran has largely blocked the strait for the past six months as the U.S. and Israel have conducted military operations against it.

In the same day, Iran’s foreign ministry said it was close to finalising a deal with Oman on transit. The Iranian spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, said a “map of the transit route” had been agreed upon and further details would be finalized in a joint statement.

The U.S. agreement with Iran, a 60‑day Memorandum of Understanding signed on 18 June, is set to expire shortly. Trump has refused to seek an extension, stating “No” when asked by BBC reporters.

Trump also claimed that the U.S. had a direct backchannel with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a claim denied by an IRGC spokesperson who called the President’s statements “fantasies” stemming from “desperation.”

The former president’s threat to bomb Oman raises questions about the potential escalation of tensions in the Gulf and the future of U.S. diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
