Trump announces the resignation of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, effective at the end of August, to focus on her young family.
The president referred to Leavitt as one of his “most trusted aides” in a social media post. He said she will transition to a top outside advisory role and remain a key voice within the Republican Party.
Leavitt made history last year when she became the youngest person to sit in the White House’s press secretary position. The 28‑year‑old recently welcomed a second daughter in May and has resumed duties after maternity leave.
She thanked her experience as president’s staff and a former spokesperson for the pro‑Trump fundraising group Maga Inc. Leavitt noted she had “the honor and adventure of a lifetime” in the role, but felt her children needed her full attention.
The administration has not yet named a successor, leaving the future of the Washington newsroom in question.
