Overnight Russian air strikes have killed at least four people, including three young children in Ukraine's north-eastern Kharkiv region, local officials have said.
Regional head Oleh Synegubov reported that two boys, both aged two, a one-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man lost their lives after a drone hit their house in the town of Bohodukhiv.
A 35-year-old pregnant woman and a 73-year-old woman were also injured in the strike, as confirmed by Synegubov.
The aerial attack by Russia follows a recent pause that was reportedly requested by Donald Trump, coinciding with extreme cold temperatures affecting Ukraine.
Bohodukhiv, located northwest of Kharkiv, has been under consistent Russian assault recently, with another attack resulting in the deaths of a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy earlier in the week.
Additionally, Russian forces targeted the city of Slovyansk, dropping bombs that killed three, including an 11-year-old girl, according to the Donetsk regional head.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about the escalation, highlighting a record number of ballistic missiles targeting transport and energy infrastructure in the region, which has led to a state of emergency regarding energy supply in Kharkiv.
Severe power cuts and lack of heating are affecting tens of thousands, as an energy truce intended to provide relief during harsh winter conditions has ended.
As both sides negotiate efforts to end the conflict, recent reports also indicate a significant drone attack carried out by Ukraine in Russia's Volgograd region, striking civilian infrastructure.
