DALLAS – Two individuals, Autumn Hill and Zachary Evetts, have been arrested and indicted in relation to a shooting incident that took place outside an immigration detention center in Texas on July 4. The duo faces serious charges, including providing material support to terrorists and attempting to murder federal officers.
The federal grand jury indictment, handed down in Fort Worth, identifies Hill and Evetts as part of an antifa cell allegedly responsible for planning the attack. Following the July shooting at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, they were initially among 11 people charged with attempted murder when one police officer was injured during the incident.
Texas Attorney General Pam Bondi labeled antifa a “left-wing terrorist organization” in her comments regarding the indictment, stating, “They will be prosecuted as such.” The attack involved individuals dressed in black, armed with firearms, and included actions such as firing fireworks and vandalizing property before opening fire on officers.
Legal representatives for the accused have pushed back against the characterization of their clients, with statements suggesting the new terrorism-related charges may have been influenced by public sentiment rather than the foundational evidence.
This incident and the subsequent charges come amid heightened scrutiny and action against immigration policies under the Trump administration, which has recently intensified deportations while addressing domestic groups like antifa in a more aggressive manner.
