South Park’s co‑creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have revealed that the 29‑season‑long animated series will be called South America for the next run—a pointed parody that echoes former President Donald Trump’s push to rename public waterways.
In August, Trump issued an executive order that changed Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” a move later mirrored by Apple and Google Maps for US users. He also renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” a decision that has drawn protests from Mexico over shared maritime geography.
The announcement followed the show’s 34th‑hour win of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, which was celebrated by a post featuring a fictionalised Trump with the words “You finally got your Emmy.”
A social‑media image displayed the familiar South Park sign, but with “America” replacing “Park.” The sign and the rebrand signal a new direction that may be temporary, as it remains unclear whether the name will revert later in the series.
South Park’s new season is set to premiere on 16 September, and the creators have pledged to keep the satire sharp—however, they also noted the support of their parent company, Paramount‑Skydance, after the Trump‑era merger with Warner‑Bros Discovery was paused for legal reasons.
