Fighters from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have executed a number of unarmed people after capturing the Sudanese city of el-Fasher, new videos analysed by BBC Verify show.

The RSF, which has engaged in a brutal war with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for over two years, seized a key military base in the city over the weekend after an extended siege.

Several videos have emerged showing armed individuals, some wearing RSF insignia, committing extreme violence in el-Fasher. The UN's Sudan coordinator has received credible reports of execution in the city, while BBC Verify has approached the RSF for comment.

More than 150,000 deaths and approximately 12 million displaced persons have resulted from the ongoing conflict since 2023. Denise Brown, the UN's Sudan coordinator, indicated reports of unarmed men being executed since the RSF's recent entry into el-Fasher.

Video evidence shows unarmed individuals being shot at various locations, one notably from a university building in el-Fasher. BBC Verify has geolocated some footage and identified RSF members participating in execution-style killings.

Naming a key fighter known as Abu Lulu, the report details his involvement in multiple execution videos, raising concerns about the RSF's decentralized composition contributing to ethnic violence and vendettas that predate the conflict.

As the situation escalates, the RSF has indicated its plans for a rival government in el-Fasher while both parties face accusations of war crimes.
