Serena Williams Back at Queen's Club

After more than a year away from the sport, the world‑record 23‑time Grand Slam champion returned to the Andy Murray Arena on Tuesday evening. Partnering with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, the 44‑year‑old won 7-6(7-2), 6-2 against third‑seeded Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in straight sets.

'It was so fun,' Williams said in a brief post‑match interview. 'I had so much fun playing with Victoria. She was really able to hold up the team and play big on the big points. I could rely on her. We have never played together but it felt so natural.'

'I had nothing better to do,' she added. 'I got tired of sitting at home. My kids are out of school for the summer, so why not? I never got to play here, it was always just the men. It feels really special to play somewhere so iconic.'

'What's the next step for me?' Williams remarked looking ahead. 'It's about time. I still have a little time to decide, and they have been great about giving me that space and time to decide. You can do anything at any age,' she said.

'I might be a C-minus,' she joked, acknowledging that her skills still shine – her powerful forehand, booming serve at 120mph and the same fierce streak that has won her titles.
