Staff at a Virginia liquor store got a surprise on Saturday when they arrived to find a very intoxicated raccoon had broken in.

The masked bandit was discovered passed out in the bathroom, nestled between a toilet and a bin, after it helped itself to some bottom-shelf spirits.

Animal control officer Samantha Martin transported the suspect for questioning at Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter, but not before it had a chance to sober up.

After a few hours of rest and with no signs of injury (other than possibly a hangover), the raccoon was safely released back into the wild.

The Ashland ABC store had been closed for Thanksgiving when it suffered its Black Friday break-in. Staff found smashed bottles and liquor pooling on the floor, with scotch appearing to be the raccoon’s drink of choice.

According to Officer Martin, the animal fell through one of the ceiling tiles before embarking on a boozy rampage, consuming everything in sight.

Only one blurry CCTV image captures the ruckus, leaving it uncertain just how much alcohol the raccoon consumed before it succumbed to exhaustion.

In a social media post, the store expressed gratitude to the Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter for their professionalism and for giving their furry visitor a sober ride home. Officer Martin remarked that it was just another day in the life of an animal control officer.
