Paris Wildfire Forces Evacuation of Horses from Riding Centre

The raging wildfire now burning 800 hectares of forest south‑east of Paris has forced a rapid evacuation of a mounted herd from a local equestrian centre. Horses that had been warming up to a riding session were safely herded out as flames approached the facility.

Firefighters have battled the blaze for almost two days, battling a fluid fire that has spread quickly across the landscape. Officials have described the fire as “virulent” and of “exceptional scale,” and Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has suggested that the fire may have been deliberately set while investigation continues.

The incident comes amid France’s third heatwave of the year, with temperatures breaking records across Europe. The rapid spread of the wildfire underscores the growing challenge of keeping front lines in control during an extreme summer season.

According to the authorities, the wildfire could be linked to illegal activity, as the fire has raced across the forest with little moderation. The Department of Environmental Affairs is conducting an investigation into the possibility of arson.

Residents and firefighters continue to monitor the site closely while the fire threatens to spread further. For now, the horses are in safe custody at a nearby training ground while authorities evaluate the next steps for protection.
