MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman who was involved in the notorious 2014 Slender Man stabbing, has been located in Illinois after she allegedly cut off her electronic monitoring device and left a group home. Madison police had issued an alert, sharing that Geyser, now 23, had gone missing around midnight on a Saturday, with authorities not made aware until nearly twelve hours later.

She was ultimately found at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, about 25 miles from Chicago. Geyser was initially detained at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute before being granted a conditional release earlier this year. Following her release, Geyser resided in a group home.

Geyser's attorney stated he was unaware of her situation and urged her to return. Following the discovery of her removal of the monitoring device, the local police department confirmed her apprehension late Sunday.

This incident trails the grim stabbing event where Geyser and her accomplice, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, into a suburban Milwaukee park and attacked her in a bid to impress the fictional horror character, Slender Man. Leutner survived the attack despite being stabbed numerous times.

Geyser and Weier believed that committing the act would secure their protection and servitude under Slender Man, fearing repercussions against their families should they fail.

Weier, who also faced charges, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide and was released from her psychiatric center in 2021.
