Migrants Seen Swimming Around Border Fence of Spanish Enclave Ceuta

Hundreds of migrants swam past the border fence of Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on Morocco’s northern coast, carrying inflatables and making hair‑raising runs around the barrier.

Spanish media report that between 2,000 and 3,000 people crossed into Ceuta on Thursday, with many apparently using water and inflatable devices to get past the fence or directly jumping through an open gate.

Juan Jesús Vivas, the territory’s governor, said the surge had "overwhelmed local resources" and implored the Spanish Ministry of Interior to step in with additional support and maintain border enforcement.

The enclave remains a frequent entry point for people from sub‑Saharan Africa and the Middle East, and authorities warn that the logistics and humanitarian infrastructure are under strain as the influx continues.

The Guardia Civil has yet to confirm precise figures, but officials highlight the crisis with increasing numbers of irregular migrants attempting to reach mainland Europe via the North African enclave.
