Major Child Abuse Case Unfolds in Australia: Man Charged in Connection with 459 Victims

A man who actively targeted children on social media and gaming platforms has been charged with hundreds of child abuse-related offences against 459 victims in Australia and 15 other countries, Queensland police have reported.
The 27-year-old, in custody since last February, faces 596 charges after police discovered over 23,000 videos and images of the alleged abuse on his electronic devices.
Detective Acting Chief Superintendent Denzil Clark noted the volume of the multimedia evidence has made victim identification a complex process. To date, 360 of the victims have been identified, and efforts are ongoing.
More than 200 victims are in Australia, with others located primarily in English-speaking countries, mostly aged between seven and 15 years old.
Detectives are collaborating with international partners to provide appropriate support to the affected victims. Clark also warned about the growing trend of children being groomed, coerced, or threatened into producing and sending sexual images, often through popular apps and online games.
He described the trauma endured by the victims as significant, a concern that has intensified due to the accessibility and popularity of social media platforms.
Police are investigating the specific platforms involved but have noted they are widely used. The suspect reportedly operated from 2018 to 2025, creating numerous online profiles and posing as both genders while exploiting young users.
The charges against him include 244 counts of producing child abuse material, 163 counts of using a service to procure children under 16, and 87 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
