Israeli Fire Kills Three in Gaza City During Reported Raid

At least two Palestinian children and a woman have been killed by Israeli fire in western Gaza City, Palestinian medics have reported. Amid reports that a Gaza-based militia backed by Israel carried out a raid, the Israeli military responded with shelling and air strikes.

A third child was killed in a separate incident in central Gaza. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz recently announced the arrest of a senior Hamas official, though it is unclear whether that announcement relates to Gaza City.

Videos from Gaza City show chaotic scenes amid gunfire and the aftermath of air strikes. Initial reports suggest a special Israeli unit may have infiltrated a crowded area using a van and motorcycles. The involvement of Israeli forces or militia members remains uncertain.

The Israeli military said it carried out drone strikes to secure this special unit after it was uncovered. The forces only confirmed striking several targets in Gaza «in order to remove threats to the security forces», adding that its troops suffered no injuries.

International observers condemn the escalating violence, calling for swift investigations and a halt to indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
