At least 17 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes in the north and south of Gaza, hospitals say. Israel's military stated that the strike was a response to gunfire from what they termed 'terrorists' that seriously wounded a soldier during operations near the Yellow Line, which defines territory controlled by Israel under a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
The military conducted targeted strikes in retaliation, citing a 'blatant violation' of the truce. Hospital officials reported that six children were among those killed across Gaza City and Khan Younis areas. Al-Shifa hospital recorded the victims of airstrikes on homes in the eastern Zeitoun and Tuffah neighborhoods, while Nasser hospital in Khan Younis reported additional casualties from strikes on tents in the southern Qizan Rashwan area.
Since the ceasefire began on October 10, both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the agreement. The ongoing conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides; Gaza's health ministry claims that Israeli actions have led to at least 529 Palestinian deaths, while four Israeli soldiers have lost their lives in Palestinian attacks.
This recent escalation follows a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on October 7, which left approximately 1,200 people dead and involved the taking of 251 hostages. Israel's military response has since claimed more than 71,800 lives in Gaza, according to local health data.
