Four Lives Lost in Helicopter Crash Near Montreal

A private helicopter crashed in the small town of Sainte‑Brigide‑d'Iberville, just 50km (31 miles) from Montreal, on Saturday afternoon, killing all four people on board. Emergency services responded shortly after 14:30 local time, finding the aircraft on fire and confirming the occupants dead at the scene.

The victims have not yet been identified. According to Sgt Audrey‑Anne Bilodeau of the Sûreté du Québec, the aircraft appeared to be a private helicopter. Investigation is being led by the Major Crime Unit of the province’s police force, in cooperation with crime‑scene technicians and investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

The crash site lies near the Rang des Écossais road off Highway 10. After a distress call, fire was brought under control an hour later, though investigators remained on the scene until about 22:00 local time.

Authorities estimated that the identification of victims may take a few days. The accident has prompted an inquiry into aircraft safety and operational procedures in the region.
