A suicide attack outside a court in Pakistan's capital Islamabad has killed 12 people and injured at least 27 more, the country's interior minister said.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that a bomber was planning to attack the district courthouse but was unable to gain entry.
Naqvi mentioned that authorities would prioritize identifying the bomber and bringing those responsible to justice.
Suicide blasts in Islamabad have been rare in recent years. Footage from the scene showed a burnt-out car and a police cordon in the area.
The 27 injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, according to Naqvi.
He added that the attacker detonated the bomb close to a police car after waiting for about 15 minutes.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the suicide blast, emphasizing the urgent need for action against violence.
Witness Rustam Malik described the scene of chaos as he parked his car outside the courthouse, recounting the sound of a loud bang followed by panic among the crowd. Lawyers and people were running inside the complex, he said. I saw two dead bodies lying at the gate and several cars were on fire.
