Eurovision 2027 will take place in the Bulgarian seaside city of Burgas from 12‑15 May, announced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT). The competition will be staged at Arena Burgas, the country’s newest sports and entertainment venue that opened in 2023.
The decision follows the stunning victory of Bulgarian singer Dara, who won in Vienna in May 2026 and became Bulgaria’s first Eurovision champion with her anthem “Bangaranga.” Thus, Burgas becomes the city directly chosen to celebrate the next triumph.
“We are delighted that Burgas will bring something really special to the competition,” said Eurovision Director Martin Green. He added that the city’s “strong overall proposition, combining venue and technical potential—hotel capacity, transport and international travel—will allow a memorable experience.”
Volunteer mayor Dimitar Nikolov called the selection an “exceptional honour” and pledged robust security and hospitality for the incoming international crowd. Milen Miltenova, BNT director, echoed the pride, noting, “I’m very proud of Dara’s performance… and also proud to welcome Eurovision to Sofia next year.”
In a related development, the EBU has updated its rules to ensure that a country winning during an armed conflict cannot host the next edition. The amendment follows a contentious situation with Israel’s participation in 2026 and includes potential implications for Ukraine, which won in 2023 but could not host because of war‑related security concerns.
Burgas’s selection highlights the importance of a city’s cultural identity, infrastructure, and international accessibility. The venue’s proximity to the Black Sea gives it a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere fit for ever‑growing Eurovision audiences, underscoring the contest’s long‑standing goal of celebrating music and unity across borders.
