At 70, Biana Watre Momin took a leap far from home, shattering age and career stereotypes. The retired college teacher from Meghalaya not only embraced new experiences but journeyed over 3,000 kilometers to Kerala to act in the Malayalam film 'Eko'. Having little background in the performing arts and no ambitions of acting, Momin’s newfound role transformed her trajectory.
Momin portrays Mlathi Chettathi, an enigmatic elder living in solitude amidst the breathtaking Western Ghats. Through her captivating performance, Momin anchors the film's themes, displaying an impressive emotional depth that belies her late entry into cinema. Shot on a shoestring budget and praised by critics, 'Eko' has propelled Momin into the limelight, earning her accolades including a nod from Tamil star Dhanush.
The journey itself wasn’t without challenges. Momin learned her lines phonetically, navigated the film set's demands, and overcame her initial hesitations with encouragement from her daughter, proving that it's never too late to chase an unexpected dream.
Despite her success, Momin remains rooted in her life back home, engaging in family and literary pursuits. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder that cinema has the power to celebrate authenticity and that age should never limit ambition.
