National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is reportedly stepping down from his role in the Trump administration amidst growing controversies regarding secure communication practices among government officials. Known as Trump's principal adviser on national security, Waltz faced challenges, particularly after a group chat snafu on the Signal messaging app, where high-ranking officials—including himself, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo—discussed military operations in Yemen with an unrelated journalist who was mistakenly added.
This incident raised alarms about breaches in national security protocols, leading to calls from both Democrats and some Republicans for an investigation. Waltz accepted full responsibility for the mishap, which came to light when Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, disclosed his unintended inclusion in the conversation.
