Minnesota Shooter Identified as Doomsday Prepper, FBI Reports
The FBI reveals Minnesota shooting suspect was preparing for catastrophic events, prompting a manhunt.
The FBI reports that Vance Luther Boelter, the man accused of the fatal shootings of Minnesota Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, was identified as a doomsday "prepper." According to court documents, his wife informed investigators that their family was part of a select group that prepares for potential catastrophic events. The 57-year-old Boelter now faces serious charges in connection with the violent incident that occurred last Saturday.
During the attack, Boelter also seriously injured other prominent officials, including Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. It has come to light that there are indications he intended to target additional individuals. Authorities apprehended Boelter after a two-day manhunt, during which he was found hiding in the woods.
The investigation revealed that shortly after the shootings, Boelter's wife, Jenny, was pulled over during a traffic stop while she was driving their four children to a friend’s home. In a disturbing message sent to her, Vance had forewarned her to flee, leaving a chilling note that implied they should brace for an impending conflict. Jenny Boelter had around $10,000 in cash, passports, and two firearms in her possession, although she has not been charged with any wrongdoing in the incident.
Vance Boelter had a business partner operating a security firm and fishing venture called "Red Lion" in Congo, Africa, adding a layer of complexity to his profile. Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz has condemned the shootings, labeling them an "act of targeted political violence."
In a troubling twist, Boelter purportedly sent a disorganized letter to the FBI claiming that Minnesota's governor had instigated him to kill Senator Amy Klobuchar as part of a supposed conspiracy enabling Walz to seize her Senate seat. No evidence has surfaced supporting this bizarre claim. Lists of potential targets, encompassing several Democratic lawmakers, were recovered from Boelter's belongings.
Allegedly, to execute the attack, Boelter disguised himself in police attire, complete with a vest and badge, to gain unlawful access to the residences of his victims. Yvette Hoffman, one of the survivors, was reportedly shot while attempting to shield her daughter, Hope, who successfully called 911. The couple suffered multiple gunshot wounds but have shown remarkable resilience amidst the chaos.
