Search Intensifies for Missing University Student Sudiksha Konanki in Dominican Republic

After disappearing during spring break, efforts to locate 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki continue as investigations unfold into potential foul play and drowning.

Search operations for Sudiksha Konanki, a missing University of Pittsburgh student, have now reached the two-week mark following her last confirmed sighting on March 6 at a hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The 20-year-old college junior was reported missing after a spring break trip with a group of friends.

Konanki was observed on surveillance footage walking towards the beach with five female friends and two male companions, before deciding to stay behind with one of the men. The incident took a concerning turn when the local authorities revealed that the last person to be in contact with Konanki mentioned that a wave struck them while they were on the beach.

Joshua Riibe, the student seen with Konanki, is from St. Cloud State University and his family has expressed their hope for her quick recovery. They have acknowledged the complexity of the situation, urging transparency and fairness in the investigation.

The Dominican Republic's search teams have employed advanced technology, deploying drones and AI to help identify potential clues over land and in the ocean. Investigators emphasized that no indicators of foul play have been found; however, the mystery surrounding Konanki's disappearance persists, and authorities are remaining vigilant.

In conjunction with local law enforcement, the University of Pittsburgh is coordinating with a range of federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, to bolster the search for Konanki. Furthermore, Interpol has issued a yellow notice as part of the efforts to locate missing persons.
