Israel Targets Evin Prison and Uranium Facility in New Strikes Against Iran

The Israeli military has conducted airstrikes against the controversial Evin prison in Tehran and facilities related to uranium enrichment. This military action is part of a broader campaign against Iran following a series of retaliatory missile strikes from Iran targeting Israeli cities.

The Israeli military has executed a targeted strike on Tehran's infamous Evin prison, which holds a significant number of political prisoners, according to Iran's judiciary reports. State-run Mizan news agency indicated that despite the attack, security measures were effectively managed and the situation remains "under control.” CCTV footage revealed a powerful explosion at the prison’s entrance, while images circulated via state television showed emergency personnel aiding an injured individual and searching debris from a collapsed structure.

Israel’s Defense Minister noted that the operation was aimed at dismantling “regime targets and government repression mechanisms” throughout Tehran, which included the strategic Fordo uranium enrichment facility located south of the capital. Additionally, the Israeli military successfully attacked routes leading to Fordo, critical for Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The airstrikes occurred just one day after the United States used bunker-busting munitions on the underground site, signaling a heightened military focus on Iranian capabilities. In retaliation, various locations in Israel experienced missile strikes from Iran, one landing in an industrial sector of Ashdod and disrupting local power supplies.

This operation follows a ten-day extensive air campaign by Israel aimed at eradicating perceived existential threats posed by Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile initiatives. Reports from Iran's health ministry estimate Israeli attacks have resulted in approximately 500 fatalities; conversely, a human rights organization claims the number could be as high as 950. Amidst this turmoil, Iranian missile attacks have led to 24 reported deaths in Israel, claiming civilian lives increasingly caught in the conflict.
