WASHINGTON (RTW NEWS) — New polling signals that President Trump's approval ratings have changed markedly during his second term, with border security and crime emerging as his key strengths, while economic approval has weakened significantly.

In past polling, Trump’s approval ratings were bolstered by positive economic sentiment; however, his current standing reflects a downturn in economic confidence among American voters, particularly independents. A recent survey shows that only 39% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s overall performance as president. His handling of the economy garners a mere 37% approval rating—declining from 43% in August—and lower than any of his other focal points.

Conversely, Trump's approach to border security has become a distinguishing strength, earning him significantly higher approval compared to his overall job performance. This marks a turnaround from 2019 when only 40% of Americans approved of his policies in this area. Currently, public approval stands at 46% for his crime policies, overshadowing his economic ratings.

While immigration remains one of his stronger issues, it has seen a slight decrease in approval, now sitting at 43%, still higher than his overall approval. Despite the dip, it reflects a contrast from his first term when immigration policies only resonated positively with about 40% of the population.

Independents are particularly critical of Trump’s economic strategies, with just 20% approving of his handling compared to better feedback on crime and border security. Notably, initiatives to deport illegal immigrants have resulted in mixed reactions, with many Americans believing Trump has overreached in his efforts.

On the international front, Trump’s handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has also seen a slide in approval, with only 37% of U.S. adults expressing support for his policies in this regard.

The data, drawn from a comprehensive AP-NORC poll of 1,183 adults conducted from September 11-15, points to pivotal shifts in voter sentiment as Trump approaches the upcoming electoral challenges he may face in balancing these critical concerns.
