Australian Health Workers Face Suspension Over Threats Against Israeli Patients

Prime Minister Albanese condemns alarming comments captured on video amid rising antisemitism.

Two Australian medical workers have been suspended after they were recorded making violent threats towards Israeli patients, sparking outrage in a climate of increasing antisemitic incidents. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese labeled their comments as “sickening and shameful” and announced a police investigation.

Two health workers employed at Bankstown Hospital in Sydney have sparked significant outrage after being filmed making explicit threats against Israeli patients. The video, which surfaced online and quickly went viral, shows one of the workers, identified as wearing medical scrubs and a hijab, stating, “I won’t treat them... I’ll kill them,” while referencing Israeli patients seeking medical care. Beside them, a colleague mimics a throat-slitting gesture, further intensifying the situation.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Australian officials amid an increase in antisemitic acts across the nation. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wasted no time in addressing the disturbing remarks, calling them “sickening and shameful.” He announced that both workers had been suspended pending further action. Additionally, the cases have been referred to law enforcement for a criminal investigation.

As communities respond to the tensions ignited by the video, Australian leaders emphasize the importance of respect and the responsibility associated with working in healthcare. The implications of such threatening behavior not only affect the integrity of medical professions but also heighten concerns for communal harmony in a multicultural society.
