**George Clarke to Manage World's Most Southerly Post Office in Antarctica**

**Bristol’s George Clarke embarks on an extraordinary adventure, running the remote post office at Port Lockroy alongside a Gentoo penguin colony.**

George Clarke, a 34-year-old festival worker from Bristol, is set to take on an exciting new role as the postmaster of the world’s southernmost post office, located in Antarctica. With a background primarily focused on erecting large tents for music events, Clarke is eager for a unique experience that contrasts sharply with his previous work.

Clarke's selection process was anything but ordinary, featuring unusual tasks like constructing a tent blindfolded while sporting oven mitts. He is preparing for an intense five-month stay at Port Lockroy, living with four other team members near a lively Gentoo penguin community. "I’ve always loved the outdoors," Clarke shared with BBC Radio Bristol, adding, “but this is a completely different level of adventure.”

Inspired by an article on last year’s Antarctic postmaster, he decided to apply for the position. The team, which will operate both a museum and post office on Goudier Island, will embrace the seclusion of their environment, choosing to limit internet usage and instead engaging in activities such as reading, knitting, and drawing.

Clarke anticipates that managing mail and processing postcards left by tourists from passing cruise ships will be a significant part of his tasks. As he prepares to leave the UK for Argentina before heading to Port Lockroy, he reflects on the rarity of this experience, stating, “How prepared can you be for something so new and unique?” He looks forward to enjoying serene mornings with coffee and hopes to catch a glimpse of whales in the stunning Antarctic landscape.
