According to Meaux prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier, around 100 extras were enlisted for the mock ceremony, which was slated to be filmed privately. Disturbingly, the man had also hired Disneyland Paris for several hours. Preliminary reports indicated that he had altered his appearance using professional makeup to disguise his identity. Alongside the British man, three other individuals—including the girl's 41-year-old mother and a Latvian woman hired to portray the bride's sister—were taken into custody. However, as of Tuesday, only the British man remains in police custody.

The suspect had appeared before a judge on June 23, facing charges of fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and identity theft. The prosecutor emphasized that Disneyland Paris had been misled into thinking the event was legitimate, with the suspect utilizing a forged Latvian ID to secure the venue. The faux wedding reportedly cost more than €130,000 (£110,000).

Further investigation revealed the man is listed in the UK's database of sexual offenders and is wanted by British authorities due to non-compliance with registration requirements following previous convictions for sexual offenses against minors. However, the motive behind this elaborate ruse remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
