The influencer gained attention after he predicted a substantial earthquake would strike every city in Myanmar on April 21, just weeks after a devastating 7.7 magnitude quake left 3,500 dead and destroyed numerous historic temples.

In a video that quickly went viral, amassing over three million views, John urged viewers to "take important things with you and run away from buildings during the shaking." His startling forecast ignited panic among residents, leading many, like a Yangon local, to flee their homes and camp outdoors in anticipation of the predicted disaster.

On April 9, the Myanmar Information Ministry announced John Moe The's arrest for spreading false information intended to incite public panic. Experts have reiterated that predicting earthquakes is beyond current scientific capabilities, considering the intricate nature of geological events.

John's TikTok account, which boasted over 300,000 followers, has since been taken down. It primarily focused on astrological predictions and palmistry. Law enforcement captured him at his residence in Sagaing during a raid, following the recent history where areas including Mandalay and Sagaing were severely affected by the March 28 earthquake. This incident led the Myanmar junta to make an unusual request for foreign assistance.
