UN Calls for Justice After Israeli Strike on Gaza Hospital Claims 20 Lives

The United Nations has demanded accountability following a double strike by Israeli forces on Gaza's Nasser Hospital, which resulted in the death of at least 20 individuals, among them journalists and health workers. The Israeli military claims the attack targeted a Hamas surveillance camera.

Condemnation of the attack, whose victims included five journalists and four health workers, has been mounting, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer describing it as completely indefensible. Later on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces released its initial inquiry, identifying several gaps for further investigation.

It came as Israelis launched a nationwide protest calling on their government to negotiate a deal for releasing hostages held by Hamas.

Monday's attack saw an initial strike kill a Reuters cameraman, operating a live TV feed, followed by a second strike targeting journalists and rescuers attending to the scene.

The IDF has stated it identified a camera positioned by Hamas at the hospital, alleging it was used to observe IDF activities, without presenting evidence. This situational report appears to contradict earlier statements by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who called the event a tragic mishap.

Despite calls for a ceasefire and investigation into the attack, protests continue, with many demanding action from Israeli leadership to address the hostage situation and prevent further violence.
