HBO kicks off production with first image of lead actor Dominic McLaughlin in costume
Production has officially commenced on the much-anticipated TV adaptation of the Harry Potter series, with HBO unveiling the first image of lead actor Dominic McLaughlin donning the iconic wizard's costume. This new series aims to give a wider scope to JK Rowling's cherished novels, which previously saw a successful film franchise.
The initial promotional image was revealed Monday, alongside announcements of several new cast members joining the project. Among them are Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson portraying Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey in the role of Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. They will join an impressive lineup that includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost taking on Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. The trio of young actors selected for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione was disclosed back in May.
Filming will take place at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, known for being the production site for the original Harry Potter films. HBO has previously indicated that the series will serve as "a faithful adaptation of the iconic books," allowing for more expansive storytelling to delve into plot lines that couldn't be fully explored in the films.
To bolster the production, a new team of experienced staff has been announced, including credibility from shows like The Crown, with Adriano Goldman serving as director of photography and Cate Hall as hair and makeup designer. Anticipation surrounds the first season, set to launch in 2027, promising a nuanced portrayal of the magical world that fans have come to love.
