Russia Apprehends Suspect in Car Bomb Attack that Killed General
A Ukrainian national is accused of orchestrating a fatal bombing in Moscow, targeting a senior Russian military official.
Russian security forces have reported the detention of Ignat Kuzi, a suspect they claim was acting as an agent for Ukraine in the assassination of General Yaroslav Moskalik. The car bomb detonation occurred Friday in the Moscow suburb of Balashikha, resulting in the general's death after he unknowingly passed a booby-trapped Volkswagen Golf parked outside his residence.
According to the FSB secret service, Kuzi allegedly prepared the explosive device and triggered it using remote technology from Ukrainian territory. Following the incident, which has heightened accusations of terrorist activities by Kyiv from Moscow, there has been no official comment from the Ukrainian government regarding these allegations.
The FSB noted that Kuzi was allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence in 2023 and had traveled to Moscow that September. Videos released by Russian media purportedly show the suspect confessing and include footage of the arrest alongside components used in constructing the bomb.
As tensions flare, a representative for the Kremlin declared that Ukraine continues to engage in hostile actions against Russia. Gen Moskalik played a significant role in past discussions aimed at resolving the conflict in Eastern Ukraine during a 2015 meeting in Paris, which sought to facilitate peace amid ongoing hostilities that have persisted since 2014—especially following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
