Japanese Woman Faces Investigation After Kissing BTS's Jin at Fan Event

A police inquiry is underway for a Japanese woman who kissed K-pop star Jin during a fan event in Korea last year.

Authorities in South Korea are investigating a Japanese woman for allegedly kissing Jin of BTS during a fan event, sparking outrage among fans and leading to a police complaint.

A Japanese fan now finds herself under scrutiny from South Korean law enforcement after kissing Jin, a member of the globally popular K-pop band BTS, during a specially organized fan event last June. The event saw Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, hug 1,000 fans shortly after his discharge from military service.

The incident took place while fans queued to embrace the idol, and rather than simply partake in the hug, the woman surprisingly kissed Jin's face. This unexpected move caused Jin to turn away in shock. Her actions elicited swift backlash from other fans, prompting one to file an official complaint, which led to the initiation of the investigation.

Clips of the moment circulated online, showing Jin visibly caught off guard by the kiss as he attempted to turn away quickly while continuing the hug. In her defense, the woman later claimed on her blog that she had kissed him "on his neck" and described his skin as "very soft." The police have indicated that they are aware of her identity, having coordinated with Japanese authorities, but her name has not been disclosed to the public.

This incident arises during a time when K-pop idols like Jin engage closely with their fanbase through various channels, emphasizing their bonds. However, the recent wave of awareness surrounding toxic fandoms highlights the distress artists can encounter, particularly from obsessive fans known as "sasaengs" who have been known to engage in stalking and harassment.

Jin recently made headlines as the first member of BTS to complete military service, with other members currently serving and the anticipated group reunion slated for June 2025.
