Pakistan Military Rescues Over 300 Hostages from Balochistan Train Siege
Operation results in the elimination of 33 militants as the army continues to secure the area.
In a decisive military operation, Pakistan's army announced the rescue of over 300 hostages from a passenger train that was hijacked by militants in Balochistan province on Tuesday. The army's spokesperson confirmed that 33 militants were killed during the engagement to liberate the hostages. Tragically, the operation comes after the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had already killed 21 civilian hostages and four military personnel prior to the raid.
The military forces are actively conducting a search operation in the vicinity to identify and eliminate any remaining threats. The BLA, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by both Pakistani authorities and several Western nations, including the UK and the US, is part of a larger group demanding either increased autonomy or full independence for Balochistan, the largest province in Pakistan.
The BLA accuses Islamabad of exploiting the region's abundant mineral resources while neglecting its developmental needs. Their history of aggression includes attacks on military installations, railway stations, and, notably, this recent hijacking incident, marking a first for such an assault on a train. Reports indicate that around 100 of the individuals aboard the train were security personnel, and militants had issued threats to execute hostages unless the government released Baloch political prisoners within a strict 48-hour deadline.
