The United States Embassy in Jerusalem has begun arranging evacuation logistics for American citizens as the conflict between Israel and Iran stretches into its sixth day. Ambassador Mike Huckabee announced on Wednesday that flight and cruise ship options would be organized to facilitate the departure of Americans trapped amid escalating violence.

Travel advisories have been issued globally, urging citizens from numerous nations to exit Israel as both Iranian and Israeli airspace have essentially been closed since the escalation of hostilities began last Friday. With reports of significant casualties—224 in Iran according to its Health Ministry and 24 in Israel per official sources—the situation remains critical.

In a social media post, Huckabee encouraged Americans wishing to leave to enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler program for updates and additional details. While the efforts mark a significant shift, it remains uncertain how quickly evacuation arrangements can be implemented or the number of passengers they could accommodate.

Previously, the embassy faced criticism for its lack of guidance in the face of increasing danger. Robert Reichelscheimer, an American visiting Jerusalem, expressed relief at the announcement, describing it as a crucial acknowledgment that Americans needed assistance. He remarked on the difficulties encountered while trying to communicate with both the embassy and senators back in New York, highlighting the anxiety of being in a war zone.
