In a catastrophic event, a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka, claiming at least 20 lives and injuring 171 others, according to local officials. The crash, attributed to a mechanical error, took place near the international airport and military air base, engulfing the school, which serves students from elementary through high school.
An aide to interim government leader Muhammad Yunus reported that a majority of the injured were children, with 25 individuals currently in critical condition. As the jet ascended from the air base, it collided with the second floor of the school, where third and fourth-grade students were in lessons. Tragically, the pilot perished in the crash but reportedly attempted to guide the aircraft towards a less populated area before impact.
Rescue operations rapidly began at the crash site, where witnesses described a horrifying scene. Emon Islam, a nearby high school student, recounted, "I saw the windows of the aircraft shattered, and it was burning up in flames, with black smoke rising into the sky."
