Trump Administration's Immigration Raids Target Wider Spectrum of Individuals**

President Trump's stringent immigration policies have led to the arrest of various migrants, including those with clean records and even tourists, igniting widespread protests.**

The Trump administration's immigration crackdown has expanded to include not just criminals but also various undocumented individuals, as well as tourists and activists. This has triggered significant public backlash, particularly in Los Angeles, where protests erupted against increased ICE raids.**

Under the Trump administration, the landscape of immigration enforcement has transformed dramatically, with a focus on aggressive deportation strategies that have led to widespread arrests. During his campaign, Trump vowed, "On day one, I will launch the largest deportation programme of criminals in the history of America." This pledge resonated with many Americans, including legal immigrants concerned with border security.

Since taking office, the scope of arrests has broadened significantly. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) operations are no longer limited to those with criminal histories; they now include migrant workers, students, and even tourists with visa problems. The surge in arrests has resulted in over 51,000 undocumented migrants being held in ICE detention centers, marking a high not seen since late 2019.

In early June, protests erupted in Los Angeles following intensified ICE raids that apprehended 118 individuals, including a handful identified as gang members. However, investigations revealed that approximately 44% of those in ICE detention had no criminal record, raising questions about the targeting process.

Among the individuals detained, a significant number lacked any serious charges. A notable case involved a 23-year-old undocumented migrant from Mexico's indigenous Zapotec community, whose family asserts he was detained without a criminal history while shopping. Forcing agents to arrest without discretion has been defended by ICE, asserting that encountering undocumented individuals necessitates action.

ICE's operations have even infringed on tourists, as seen in cases like a Welsh national detained for 19 days due to a visa issue, and Khaby Lame, a famous TikTok star detained for visa overstaying allegations. Additionally, Canadian actress Jasmine Mooney reported inhumane conditions during her detention while attempting to renew her visa.

Outside of regular immigration enforcement, the administration has extensively targeted individuals believed to be affiliated with crime networks. In El Salvador, over 250 alleged gang members were transferred to a mega-prison under questionable circumstances. Community advocates claim many of those detained are wrongfully identified as gang affiliates based on tattoos or other indicators.

The Trump administration's strict immigration policies have also affected student activists and foreign nationals involved in political protests. With over 1,600 international students reportedly having their visas revoked, fears of legal overreach have grown. Prominent cases, like Mahmoud Khalil's detention after pro-Palestinian protests and Rumeysa Ozturk's six-week custody, highlight the risks faced by engaged international students.

Each case contributes to a growing perception that ICE operates with limited accountability, justifying arrests as aligned with national security despite fierce backlash. In light of these developments, public dissent and scrutiny of the administration's immigration strategies continue to escalate.
