In a tragic turn of events, Gilbert Deya, the infamous Kenyan pastor renowned for proclaiming the ability to create "miracle" pregnancies, has died following a road accident in western Kenya. The collision occurred on Tuesday evening when Deya's vehicle crashed into a university bus and another car near Kisumu town, resulting in his immediate death and injuring at least 30 others, including his wife and several students from the bus.

Deya, who previously led a church in London, gained notoriety in the early 2000s for his controversial assertions that he could assist infertile couples in conceiving through divine intervention. However, his ministry also faced serious allegations as investigations linked it to a child-trafficking operation, leading to his arrest and extradition from the UK approximately eight years ago after a protracted legal struggle. He was acquitted of the allegations in 2021 due to a lack of evidence.

In response to the shocking news of Deya’s passing, Siaya County Governor James Orengo expressed his sorrow, acknowledging the tragic circumstances surrounding the accident which involved a county vehicle. The loss of Deya, a figure with a complicated legacy, has reverberated through the community, reminding many of the significant controversies and claims that marked his life.
