Modi Joins Truth Social, Making Waves in Social Media Landscape
Indian Prime Minister's first post on Trump's platform garners attention
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially joined Truth Social, the social media platform developed by former US President Donald Trump. In his inaugural post on Monday, Modi shared a 2019 photo taken with Trump during his US visit in Houston, expressing his delight at being part of the platform.
Truth Social was launched by Trump in February 2022 following his ban from major social networks, including Twitter and Facebook, after the 2020 election. As of 03:30 GMT, Modi has attracted 21,500 followers and is connecting with notable figures, including Trump and US Vice President JD Vance.
On the same day, Trump linked to an interview where Modi discussed various subjects such as his life experiences, the Gujarat riots of 2002, and India's relations with China. The platform functions similarly to X (formerly Twitter), allowing users to post content known as 'truths' or 'retruths', and facilitating direct messaging. Advertisements are labeled as 'sponsored truths'.
Truth Social, under Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), is still struggling to gain a significant user base compared to its competitors, with current traffic being minuscule according to Bloomberg. TMTG's reported losses hit $400 million in 2024, amidst a market valuation of $4.45 billion. While Trump enjoys a follower count of 9.28 million on Truth Social, this is significantly lower compared to his 87 million followers on X.
