Jen Pawol has etched her name in the record books by being the first female umpire to officiate a Major League Baseball (MLB) game during the regular season, a feat celebrated in the sport's 150-year history. The 48-year-old took charge at first base during Saturday's matchup between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves, earning a standing ovation from fans gathered in Atlanta, Georgia. "I'm aware of the gravity. I'm aware of the magnitude," Pawol stated, sharing her emotions of the moment, which was further accentuated by the cheers that erupted when she stepped onto the field.

Jen Pawol's entry into Major League Baseball marks a progressive step in sports refereeing, coming 28 years post the NBA's first female basketball referee and 10 years after the NFL appointed its first female official. Though male-dominated sports are slowly changing, a female official has yet to grace the National Hockey League.
